How to choose a cable machine

A cable machine lets you work from high, mid and low pulley positions. The main differences between models are:

  • Weight stacks. The FN-25 cable crossover machine has a 70kg metal weight stack on each side at a 2:1 cable ratio, so the handle load is about half the stack. The CFN-26 has a 95kg stack on each side of its crossover station, plus 127kg stacks for the lat pulldown and seated row, so two people can train at once.
  • Pulley range. The FN-25 pulleys adjust across 11 height levels, 15cm apart, for high, mid and low cable work.
  • Stations. The CFN-26 is a multi function cable machine combining a single cable station, cable crossover station, seated row and lat pulldown.
  • Attachments. The FN-25 comes with a pair of handles, triceps rope, straight connection bar, triceps single bar and triceps pushdown bar.
  • Combined machines. If you also want a guided bar, Smith machines including the US586, JL006, SP024 and BL181 are in this range. The BL181 runs a 1:1 cable ratio; the FN-25 and JL006 are 2:1.

Cable machine FAQs

What is a cable crossover machine?

It has two adjustable pulley towers, each with its own weight stack. You can use one side at a time or both together for movements such as chest flyes, cable crossovers, triceps pushdowns, biceps curls and lateral raises.

Should I buy a cable machine or a functional trainer?

A full cable crossover gives a wider range of motion and lets two people train at once. If floor space is limited, compare our functional trainers, which put dual cables into a smaller frame.

Can a light commercial model work as a home gym cable machine?

Yes, if you have the space. The CFN-26 is described for gyms, personal training studios, rehabilitation centres and high-end home gyms. Check the dimensions on each product page before you order.

Can I see a cable machine in person?

Yes. You can see and try selected models at our showrooms in Meadowbrook (Brisbane), Carrara (Gold Coast) and Northmead (Sydney). Please call ahead to check the model you want is on display.

You can add cable machine attachments, pair your setup with an adjustable bench, or compare Smith machines. Read our cable crossover chest guide. Local delivery in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and Ipswich, and Australia-wide.
